What is a car repair loan?
A car repair loan is an unsecured personal loan used for an eligible vehicle repair or maintenance expense. The vehicle does not secure the GoodLoan loan, and GoodLoan does not take ownership of the repair or guarantee the mechanic’s work.
Before applying, ask the repair shop for a written estimate. Then confirm what the warranty, insurance or service plan may cover. Borrowing only for the remaining necessary amount can reduce total interest.
Vehicle expenses a personal loan may cover
Mechanical repairs
Eligible engine, transmission, cooling, electrical or steering work needed to restore safe operation.
Safety-related work
Brakes, tires, suspension, lights or other urgent items identified by a qualified repair provider.
Essential maintenance
Time-sensitive work that prevents further damage when it cannot reasonably wait for savings.
Estimate the right amount
Start with the repair quote, applicable taxes and a modest allowance only when the mechanic identifies a realistic additional cost. Avoid automatically borrowing the maximum. If the vehicle needs several repairs, ask which items affect safety now and which can wait.
For example, if a $2,200 repair includes $500 covered by warranty and you can safely pay $300, a request near $1,400 may better match the remaining expense. GoodLoan will still assess eligibility and may approve less or decline.
Car repair loan application documents
- Government-issued identification
- Proof of Manitoba or Ontario address
- Recent income verification
- Bank statements where requested
- Accurate expense and debt information
- A repair estimate or invoice if required
Compare alternatives before borrowing
Check the vehicle warranty, insurance coverage, mechanic payment options and emergency savings first. A credit card or line of credit may cost less for some borrowers, while a personal loan may offer a clearer payoff schedule. Compare APR and total repayment, not only how quickly funds might arrive.
How the GoodLoan online application works
Choose a reasonable amount
Request only what you need and consider whether the scheduled payment fits your regular budget.
Provide your information
Complete the application with accurate identity, address, employment, income, expense and debt details.
Complete verification
GoodLoan may request identity checks, income documents, bank statements and authorized credit information.
Review any offer
If approved, read the principal, interest rate, APR, payment schedule, total cost, fees and borrower rights before signing.
Submitting information does not guarantee approval, a particular amount or rate, or funding. Verification and underwriting requirements apply.
Compare the payment and total borrowing cost
A smaller scheduled payment may look easier to manage. However, a longer term can increase the total interest paid. Therefore, compare the annual interest rate, annual percentage rate (APR), number of payments, payment amount, total cost of borrowing and total repayment.
GoodLoan does not charge an application fee under its current product design. In addition, early full or partial repayment is intended without a prepayment penalty. Review the final agreement because it controls the actual terms.
